Dr. Jennifer Gamarra

Clinical Expertise

Dr. Jennifer Gamarra is a licensed clinical psychologist (CA PSY33598) who specializes in treating adolescents, young adults, and adults with mood, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, and trauma/stressor disorders. She is dedicated to enhancing student mental health and guiding parents and schools in supporting youth.

Passionate about athlete and performer mental health, Dr. Gamarra also uses her experience as a former athlete and her background in the film/television industry to address performance-related stress and help individuals achieve their full potential. She employs evidence-based interventions tailored to the unique needs of these populations.

Education and Training

Dr. Gamarra completed her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with honors at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, she completed three years of post-baccalaureate training at the National Center for PTSD located at the Boston VA Hospital.

She moved to Los Angeles to complete her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at UCLA with an emphasis on youth, families, and community mental health. As a doctoral student, she received training in multiple, evidence-based treatments (see Therapy page). Additionally, she completed her training across various settings, including schools, college counseling centers, and community mental health agencies.

Upon graduating from UCLA, Dr. Gamarra completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Child and Adolescent Mood Program (CHAMP) at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Behavior, which included additional specialty training in family therapy and working with youth with emerging severe mood and psychotic disorders.

Teaching and Supervision

Dr. Gamarra loves teaching and mentoring students in psychology! She is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the PsyD Program at California Lutheran University (CLU), where she teaches courses in research methods, human development, trauma, and case consultation. She is also a clinical supervisor in the CLU Community Counseling Center, where she oversees the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Track.

Dr. Gamarra has previously taught courses in psychology at UCLA, California State University Northridge (CSUN), and in private academic programs.

Just For Fun

When not teaching or seeing clients, Dr. Gamarra enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and her 7lb pup, Ziggy. Dr. Gamarra also enjoys trying new restaurants and taking advantage of all the cuisines Southern California has to offer. She is a huge travel lover - she recently completed seeing all 50 states and is scheduled to see her 6th continent in 2025!
